History of the Conversos in Spain and Portugal

Catalog description

This course focuses on the key dynamics of change within the population of Conversos from Spain and Portugal over the course of three hundred years, from 1391 to the end of the seventeenth century. The course will consider major controversies among scholars regarding who the Conversos ‘really’ were, and examine the creation of a diaspora of ex- conversos who rejoined, or established, Jewish communities outside Iberian lands.
