The gentile or non-Jew has played a prominent role in rabbinic literature from the time of the Mishnah or late antiquity until the present day. This course will explore this literature, showing how the Jew interacted with the gentile both socially and halakhically, with each new social reality throughout Jewish history offering new challenges and requiring the rabbis to find new solutions.
