Catalog description

The course examines the nature, causes, and extent of crime and juvenile delinquency and juvenile justice system. Specifically, the course will examine major theories that help the students to understand the development of delinquency within the context of individuals, families and communities. Furthermore, this course will focus on some key issues that professionals and social workers working within the juvenile justice system face today: poverty, child maltreatment, substance abuse, incarceration, peer relationships, the school to prison pipeline, evidence-based interventions and the role of ideology in juvenile justice policy.
