Medical Assisting Externship

Catalog description

This course provides the student with general training and experience in the workplace. Students will be placed in an ambulatory health care setting, where they will perform both administrative and clinical competencies. Managerial competencies may include claims processing, filing, appointment scheduling, telephone screening, and bookkeeping functions. Clinical competencies may include specimen collection, diagnostic testing, and patient care. Transdisciplinary competencies will be integrated in both clinical and administrative areas. These include communication, legal concepts, patient instruction, and operational functions. Must be taken in the final semester.
