Catalog description

This course will trace the cultural history of New York City from its founding in 1624 to the present. From its Dutch and later English colonial roots, New York City took the lead in creating a distinctive American culture, a culture marked by diversity, individualism, national destiny and religiosity. Ever since General George Washington declared that the city would one day be the “capital of a great empire,” New York City has remained loyal to its unique identity.
