GCAN 220
Communication in Healthcare Environment
Touro University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The course is designed to introduce communication techniques like verbal, nonverbal, written, listening, and visual for specific workspaces. Skillful communication enables healthcare providers to establish rapport with their patients, solicit crucial health information, and work effectively with all members of a care team and the public. Transcription and EHRs allow communication via structured (e.g., computerized provider order entry [CPOE]) and unstructured pathways (e.g. clinician notes). Structured information is highly specified and frequently used to communicate information such as allergies, medications, and diagnostic testing. Students will gain hands-on experience with electronic patient record documentation using industry-standard software.
