Catalog description

This course explores the diverse roles women have played in the creation of music, be it their own or those of the male composers they assisted and inspired. Topics will include life histories, professional activities and artistic contributions of women in music, past and present, as composers, performers, critics, pedagogues, or simply muses. Special attention will be paid to “gender ideology” as it affected the public recognition of women's works.
