Catalog description

This course provides a solid introduction to the various genres and styles of Western music from its earliest forms up to the dawn of the 20th century, emphasizing the baroque, classical, romantic and impressionist periods. Music will be examined in the context of the literature, social values and philosophy of its period. Special attention will be paid to the individual features of great composers - their life-stories, personal styles and techniques.
