Catalog description

Lengthening life-spans brought about by technological and environmental factors have led to an increase in the elderly population and a related increase in the population of long-term care facilities. This course introduces students to gerontology, the study of the elderly, and concepts and issues of concern to administrators of these facilities. The course deals with issues raised by elder abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder, with a heavy concentration on understanding Alzheimer’s disease.
