Catalog description

This course introduces the development and application of epidemiologic methods in understanding, addressing, and analyzing issues relevant to oral health as well as the discipline of biostatistics and how to understand approaches to analyzing data and interpreting results as a basis for the practice of evidenced-based dentistry. Students will become familiar with principles and concepts in epidemiology and basic biostatistics through lectures, discussions, assigned readings, and exercises. Students are given the opportunity to acquire an understanding of the principles and concepts, methods of investigation, basic research design, and interpretation and evaluation of epidemiologic research and biostatistical analysis. Issues surrounding disparities in oral health care access and utilization are also discussed.
