Catalog description

This course will present an important core of information essential for an understanding of the many microbial diseases encountered by dental professionals. The course will include an overview of general microbiology, the molecular genetics of oral microbes, the pathogenesis of human microbial diseases, the immune system and current utilization of diagnostic microbiology and various laboratory methods. Upon successful completion of this course the student will have met the expectations of the faculty as listed for each portion of the course. The student will be prepared to take the microbiology portion of the National Boards. Students will have a level of understanding of the many oral microbial diseases allowing them to fulfill their future responsibilities to their patients and the health care community.
