Students enrolled in jazz/pep band gain practical musical experience working in various instrumental combinations and styles and acquire training in jazz musicality, phrasing, improvisation, and ensemble playing primarily as it has to do with important composers from the jazz realm (but also rock, funk, Afro-Cuban, Afro-beat, etc. Members are assessed through the rehearsal and public performance of both newly written and classic works for large and small jazz ensemble.
