PSY 3073. Psychology and the Media. This course examines the role of mass media in the United States and globally, focusing on how media technologies influence perception, cognition, emotion, social behavior, and group processes. Students analyze media systems, representation, and social influence using psychological theory and empirical research, including the study of diversity, stereotyping, and patterned portrayals of social groups and their effects on attitudes, bias, and behavior. Prerequisites: PSY 1013 and PSY 2023 . Three seminar hours a week. Credit: Three hours.
