Gender, Race and Crime.

Catalog description

This course provides students with an understanding of the social realities of crime and justice in America. The course is a sociological review of the role class, race, and gender play in the way the American society reacts to the issues of crime and criminal behaviors. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to: social class and social stratification, inequality, social construction of race and ethnicity, gender and sex in society, victimization and intersectionality, law enforcement and criminal prosecutions, and punishment, sentencing, and imprisonment.
