Catalog description

The goal of Palliative Care is to prevent and relieve suffering and to support the best possible quality of life for patients and their families, regardless of the stage of the disease or the needed therapies. At UMC El Paso, palliative care is a consult service is through the Department of Emergency Medicine. Students on the rotation will work with palliative care faculty and an interdisciplinary time and be integrally involved in the consultation process, gathering patient data, directly from the patient and family via history and physical exam, as well as from the medical record. Recommendations will be proffered by the student and discussed with the attending physician, who will ultimately provide formal recommendations. The student would not have evening, night or weekend clinical responsibilities. Limit 1 student Faculty: Dr. Weber, Dr. Lee, NP, Agnes Ayokosok . (2-4 weeks)
