What can animal behavior such as the problem-solving skills of a crow or the counting ability of a honey bee teach us about the human mind? Comparative Psychology seeks to answer such questions by investigating the evolution and development of behavior across the animal kingdom. At the intersection of experimental psychology and evolutionary biology, we will compare a wide array of species to uncover universal principles and unique adaptations in behavior. Students will explore topics such as animal intelligence, learning, memory, reproductive behavior, and social dynamics to better understand the evolutionary roots of all behavior - including our own.
