Prerequisite: POL 1013 or GLA 1013 . South Asia is one of the world’s most complex and dynamic regions. It is the world’s fastest-growing region and boasts the world’s largest democracy. Yet it also contains one-third of the world’s poor and societies divided by religion, caste, class, language, gender, and region. Extending from Afghanistan in the north to Sri Lanka in the south, it is home to distinctive political undercurrents, enduring military conflicts, and rapidly changing societies. This course will provide an in-depth survey of the politics, political economy, and international relations of the major South Asian countries: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. (Same as GLA 3943 . Credit cannot be earned for both POL 3943 and GLA 3943 .). Course Fees: LRLF $10.27; STLF $18.48.
