Catalog description

This course teaches competitive policy debate and prepares students to be engaged citizens in their local, national, and even international communities. We will examine theory and practice in the art of advocacy, involving analysis, arrangement, and presentation of arguments for the purpose of decision-making and social engagement. Students will be able to read, synthesize, and present credible evidence to support their ideas. Students will develop skills to express themselves using their own voices, experiences, cultures, and histories to debate a legal, domestic, or international topic. Students will practice advocacy through debating, writing, presenting constructive speeches, and delivering rebuttals to opposing viewpoints. Course Fees: LRLF $10.27; STLF $18.48.
