Prerequisite: GLA 1013 or POL 1013 . A comparative examination of the diverse forms, goals, styles, and practices of government in democratic and authoritarian states. Several major polities will be studied in detail. Topics may include political development and modernization, dependency and development, conflict, civil wars, coups and terrorism.
