Prerequisite: PHY 2823 and PHY 3423 , or consent of instructor. Continuation of the material started in PHY 3423 . Electrodynamics is a part of physics dealing with the interaction forces between electric charges and currents, the nature of electric and magnetic fields, electromagnetic wave radiation and propagation, as well as the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter. It is a bridge between the fundamental principles taught in PHY 3423 and the practical application to specific fields such as materials, physics, chemistry, and engineering. Topics include Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves, wave guides, radiation from accelerated charges, and relativistic electrodynamics. Generally offered: Fall, Spring.
