Catalog description

Prerequisites: MUS 2112 , MUS 2162 , and one of the following: MUS 1552 or MUS 2521 . Study of contrapuntal techniques of the 16th and 18th centuries. Topics include melodic line and motive, cadence, imitation, treatment of consonance and dissonance, species counterpoint, invention, canon, and fugue. Emphasis is placed on analysis and composition, with discussion of application to contemporary music. Generally offered: Fall of odd-numbered years. Course Fees: LRLF $10.27; STLF $18.48.
