University of Texas at San Antonio · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This introductory survey course for freshmen aims to explore the connections between mathematics, data, and computing, with an emphasis on their roles in shaping and understanding human culture and experience from ancient times through today. Students will be guided through a series of 30 lessons that explore how these fields intersect with ideas, values, beliefs, and other cultural aspects, fostering aesthetic and intellectual creation. Throughout the course, students will have access to large language models (LLMs) to assist with content generation and idea exploration; through this process, students will be exposed to technically correct uses of LLMs as tools for intelligence augmentation instead of venues for outsourcing reasoning. Course Fee: DL01 $75; LRS1 $45; STSI $21.
