Prerequisite: MAT 2233 or MAT 2253 , and MAT 3003 . Topics may include 1) Finite-dimensional vector spaces: Vector space axioms, subspaces, linear independence and bases, dimension, sums, and quotients of vector spaces, 2) Linear transformations: Rank and nullity, isomorphisms, bases, and change of basis, 3) Gauss-Jordan elimination: Row operations, echelon forms, and determinants, 4) Inner product spaces: Projections, orthogonal bases and Gram-Schmidt, least squares approximation, and Riesz representation, 5) Eigenvalues and eigenspaces: Characteristic polynomials and diagonalization, and 6) Jordan form and spectral representation.
