Catalog description

Prerequisite: MAT 1223 (or MAT 1224 in previous catalogs). Topics include systems of linear equations, vectors, and matrices; methods of solving linear systems such as Gauss-Jordan elimination and Cramer's Rule; matrix operations including addition, multiplication, and inversion; properties of matrix rank and determinants; linear transformations and their matrix representations; subspaces, bases, and dimension; vector spaces and their subspaces; column space and null space; the rank-nullity theorem; dot products, orthogonality, and orthogonal projections; orthonormal bases and the Gram-Schmidt process; least-squares solutions; determinants and their geometric interpretation; eigenvalues, eigenvectors, characteristic equations, eigenspaces, and diagonalization.
