In our globalized world, literacy has taken on many meanings and has moved beyond linguistic forms to all representations of language. In this course, we will explore research- based and pedagogical definitions and applications of new literacies (literacies that fall outside of the ever-shrinking "mainstream") through a critical lens, including the new understanding of what it means to be literate in present day, referred to as the "ethos stuff," as well as the new hardware and software of communication, referred to as the "technical stuff."(Formerly titled "Multiple Literacies Using Critical Perspectives."
