Catalog description

A survey of the social, economic, political, and cultural history of African Americans from the time of contact with European slave traders until the Civil War. The course will examine the process by which millions of Africans were taken from their homelands, enslaved, and transported to America, where they were gradually, and often violently, transformed into Americans. While the course will focus on the United States, it will also consider how the Black experiences in America relate to the history of the peoples of the African diaspora. Course Fee: DL01 $75; LRLF $10.27; STLF $18.48.
