This course examines the development of scientific thinking from classical antiquity to the present. It traces the impact that science has had on society and culture throughout history and the impact that society and culture have had on science. The course may include a variety of topics, including the origins of scientific thinking in classical antiquity, the relationship between science and religion during the medieval period, the relationship between science and art during the Renaissance, the origins of the Scientific Revolution, and the response to various theories, including Darwin's theory of evolution and Einstein's theory of relativity.
