Prerequisite: POL 1013 or GLA 1013 . China’s rise in world affairs has become one of the most significant and challenging foreign policy issues in today’s international system. This course examines the influences on and patterns of China's international relations, its relations with various countries and regions, the rise of China and its challenges and opportunities, and the various factors that affect Chinese foreign policy decision-making processes. Emphasis will be placed on the external and domestic determinants of Chinese foreign policy, the historical legacy and evolution of China's foreign policy, contemporary China's foreign policy on traditional national security concerns, its' evolving security strategy and rapidly growing military capacities, as well as economic, environmental, and humanitarian issues, China's military modernization, China's foreign policy in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America, and China's rise and its implications for relations with the United States. (Same as POL 3623. Credit cannot be earned for both GLA 3623 and POL 3623.). Course Fees: LRLF $10.27; STLF $18.48.
