Prerequisite: POL 1013 or GLA 1013 . Advanced survey of major theories and problems in Latin American political and economic development. The course will address the rise and fall of democracies and dictatorships, economic inequality, the varying patterns of state capacity, political and criminal violence, market reforms, and the impact of clientelism and corruption on citizens’ perceptions of the state, among other topics.
