Prerequisite: GLA 1013 or POL 1013 . This course introduces students to a range of methodological approaches relevant to studies of global problems and international relations. Students will study relevant background debates in the philosophy of the social sciences, consider examples of contemporary research designs associated with global problems and international relations, and learn how to craft research questions that address real world challenges. Course may include a range of methodological approaches including quantitative methods (e.g., measures of central tendency and dispersion, regression, and problems of description and inference, etc.), qualitative methods (e.g., comparative case studies, content analysis, and discourse analysis, etc.).
