Catalog description
Prerequisite: A grade of "C-" or better in CHE 1113 and MAT 1213 (or MAT 1214 in previous catalogs), and completion of or concurrent enrollment in MAT 1223 . Students will learn basic principles of chemical engineering, including temperature, pressure, mass, moles, volume, concentration, density, heat, work, internal energy, potential energy, kinetic energy, and enthalpy. They will apply problem-solving techniques such as interpolation, linearization, statistical analysis, and Gauss-Jordan elimination. Students will define system boundaries for closed and open systems to apply material and energy balances to single-unit and multiple-unit processes; processes containing recycle loops; non-reactive and reactive processes; processes with ideal and non-ideal gases; and processes with liquid-liquid equilibrium, solid-vapor equilibrium, and single and multi-component vapor-liquid equilibrium.
