This course examines how creative practices can challenge inequities and improve health outcomes in rural and urban communities. Students study the intersections of public health, medicine, and the arts, analyzing how structural factors such as race, class, and environment shape disparities. Through case studies, collaborative projects, and community engagement, the course explores how arts-based interventions—ranging from theater and music to participatory visual arts—support healing, amplify historically excluded voices, and foster resilience. Emphasizing culturally responsive approaches, students learn to design and evaluate arts initiatives that advance equity, promote well-being, and address systemic barriers to health.
