Prerequisite: BIO 3713 and BIO 4743, or consent of instructor. This course will present a selection of topics in the field of bacterial pathogenesis. Lectures will cover regulation of virulence; colonization and host tissue damage; vaccines, antibiotics and novel antimicrobials; evasion of the immune system; intracellular pathogens; pathogenic mechanisms of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria; pathogenic mycobacteriology; and experimental tools in bacterial pathogenesis.
