Prerequisite: Graduate standing or consent of instructor. This course will focus on the molecular mechanisms by which toxic compounds in the environment affect animal and plant biological systems. Risk Assessment procedures will provide the scientific context to quantify and evaluate the environmental impact of hazards associated with toxins including heavy metals, pesticides, and plasticizers on human health. The potential risk associated with exposure to endocrine disruptors and carcinogens will also be considered. (Same as ES 5413 . Credit cannot be earned for both ES 5413 and BIO 5553 .)
