Prerequisite: BBL 7133 or consent of instructor. Study of the research in second language acquisition and bilingualism. Topics may include age and second language acquisition; identity and second language acquisition; sociocultural theories of second language acquisition, universal grammar and second language acquisition, interlanguage variation, bilingual groups in the Americas, Asia, and Europe, cultural and linguistic interaction norms, and cognitive development in the bilingual child.
