This course provides an overview of the various skills necessary for obtaining a position and working in an academic environment, one specifically involving research and teaching at the university level. Topics include: basic leadership skills, grant application preparation, research ethics, giving a presentation/poster, developing a syllabus, preparing for the job market, what to expect as a new faculty member, how to peer review manuscript/grant applications, communicating science to the public, and mentoring future students.
