Prerequisite: ANT 2033 recommended. Why is there sex? This course explores the evolution of sexual reproduction as an alternative to asexual cloning that is found in most organisms. We will explore why sexual reproduction evolved, its costs and benefits, and the diversity of sexual strategies across all kingdoms of life. It concludes by examining the sexual behavior of humans and our closest primate relatives. Topics will include sexual selection, mating systems, same-sex behavior, and the evolution of monogamy.
