Catalog description
This course provides detailed instruction into the patient interactions and management expected in a medical imaging environment. Issues such as ethical and legal aspects, interpersonal communication, body mechanics, patient monitoring and vital signs as well as responding to medical emergencies are addressed. Instructions in the components of the health history and formation of an AIDET statement are included. Infection control including information about the cycle of infection, CDC Standard precautions, hand hygiene, transmission-based precautions and correct PPE is also discussed . Pharmacology as it relates to contrast media used in medical imaging, contrast reactions, emergency medications and the radiographers documentation are addressed. Students are expected to be able to successfully complete the General Patient Care Procedures required by ARRT.
