Catalog description

This course introduces the scientific principles of oral radiography, including essential terminology, the production and absorption of radiation, X-ray unit function, digital imaging systems, processing radiographs, quality assurance, and radiation biology. This course emphasizes radiation health and protection principles for patients and practitioners. Techniques of intraoral and extraoral radiography and exposing, processing, mounting, and critical evaluation of dental radiographs will be taught. Laboratory experience and clinical applications are emphasized. Includes two lecture hours and three laboratory hours per week. Students must meet the basic requirements for admission to the Dental Hygiene program. Course fees: Materials fee $50.
