Catalog description

Description of crystal structures and miller indices for crystallographic planes and directions. Phases in solid state condition using conventional phase diagrams. Students identify phases and calculate their relative fractions using the Lever rule. The eutectoid phase diagram and the Fe-C system include heat treatment of steels, features of cast irons and the solidification in steels associated with the eutectic/peritectic reactions. Substitutional and interstitial diffusion, dislocations, grain boundaries, annealing, solid solutions, precipitation hardening and solidification are discussed.
