This course explores the dynamic interaction between language and society, focusing on how social factors like regional origin, ethnicity, gender, and class influence linguistic variation and communication. Students will engage with topics such as code-switching, language choice, multilingualism, and cross-cultural communication. The course also addresses language attitudes, discrimination, and the role of sociolinguistic research in identifying and addressing implicit biases in diverse, multicultural settings.
