Catalog description

Introductory Health Operations Management This course covers essential concepts of operations management in the healthcare sector, and provides students with the theoretical and practical understanding of the challenges healthcare managers face in delivering cost- effective and safe patient services. A description of the "continuum of care", or the functional areas, involved in patient services is the foundation of this course. Specific topics include quality control issues, resource management, and operations controls, patient safety legislation and process improvements initiatives. At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1) understand the various functional areas involved in the continuum of care; 2) explain the type and application of quality control and patient safety measures; and, 3) evaluate operational feasibility strategies in various healthcare setting types feasibility strategies in various healthcare setting types.
