Qualifying Exam

Catalog description

All Ph.D. in Civil Engineering students must take a Qualifying Examination before the third semester of study. This examination is administered by a Ph.D. Advisory Committee consisting of Civil Engineering faculty members. The purpose of this examination is to assess the student's technical competency in civil engineering and research skills. Based on the results of the examination, the committee might recommend specific requirements (including coursework in addition to the degree plan), retake the examination, transfer to another program, or exit from the program.
