Catalog description

Unsaturaterd Soil Mechanics: This course covers theoretical concepts and practical aspects pertaining to the role moisture in natural and engineered soils, and its influence on the load bearing capacity and stability of soil platform supporting civil engineering structures. The topics include apparent cohesion concept, matric suction, field suction profile, hysteresis behavior, ad extended failure criteria for soils. The second part of the course provide analysis and design of shallow foundations and retaining structures considering the moisture variations during the service life of geostructures.
