Catalog description
This course will cover the use of nanotechnology and nano materials in biomedical settings. The course discusses the principles of nanoscale physical phenomena of materials, and how to harness those properties for biomedical applications such as quantitative bioanalysis, disease diagnostics, and therapy of diseases. The course emphasizes the design, synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of a wide variety of inorganic and organic nanomaterials. The course will also cover relevant molecular biology, microbiology, human physiology in the context of quantitatively assessing the biological and clinical performance of nanomaterials. Contemporary examples from current research will be analyzed, discussed, and critically evaluated throughout the course.
