Introduction to African Studies (3-0) A historical survey of the African American Experience from its origins in Africa to the present. Major themes include African history and culture, philosophies, political and belief systems, the middle passage, enslavement, segregation, the fight against second class citizenship, survival skills, gender politics, and their impact on the Black community. These themes help construct an analysis of the African American experience and the historical and current relationship of African Americans to the larger regional, national and global society.
