Catalog description

This is the first of a pair of multidisciplinary, experiential classes that explores the environmental, social, technological, economic, scientific, and political issues facing the Gulf. Course activities will integrate students’ diverse disciplinary backgrounds and experiences. Special emphasis will be placed on social responsibility, ethical reasoning, interdisciplinary and integrative learning. In addition to traditional course delivery modes, the course includes guest speakers and field trips. In this first course, students will complete a proposal for a Gulf Impact Project (GIP, or capstone project); the project is to be completed in the next semester, leading to award of a Gulf Scholars Program Certificate.
