Catalog description

Principles of molecular biology including advanced concepts of gene structure, expression and regulation, chromatin structure, recombination, and current molecular biology techniques. Lecture course emphasizes the "tool-box" approach," including theoretical bases of nucleic acid analyses, PCR amplification, nucleic acid and protein quantification (including electrophoresis), and restriction enzyme analysis. DNA sequencing-based approaches are covered including bioinformatics for sequence comparisons, polymorphisms, and molecular identification. CHEM 3411 highly recommended. Cross listed with BIOL 3303 . Offered spring semester every year.
