Catalog description

A lecture-only course entailing the study of cellular architecture and function. Emphasis is placed on the biology and chemistry of basic cellular mechanisms. Topics include biomolecules, cellular architecture, metabolism, protein structure and function, membrane structure and function, transport, organelles, cytoskeleton, cell communication and signal transduction, signaling mechanisms. Interrelationships of structure, function, regulation of cell proliferation and cancer. Laboratory course is independent of this lecture course. Offered every Fall semester.
