Catalog description

This graduate course offers an overview of core topics in current pragmatic theories focusing on production and interpretation of Spanish discourse in diverse contexts. Analysis of everyday conversation, professional interactions, mass- and social media communication, and Spanish corpora provides critical understanding of pragmatic variation in Spanish-speaking communities. Pedagogical frameworks and classroom implementations on pragmatics prepare participants to implement effective, research-informed strategies in their Spanish language teaching.
